Goodman, George Jr. "Student Rebels Explain Protest."
New York Times, April 30, 1972, p. 61.
A group of students from Columbia University (primarily African-American, Puerto Rican, and
Asian) who called themselves the "Third World Students," organized a protest over the
campus' Urban Center which was to help the community. The students saw the war in Vietnam as
"just part of the problem with imperialism." "We feel the issues in the community
are the most important concerns of Third World people here, not a new development in the war,
which leads white students to demonstrate two or three weeks a year."
